Playing NOGOA and ... not dying? Is that allowed? | The Long Dark
2Never let it be said I don't make good on my promises. This round of playing NOGOA (No One Gets Out Alive) is courtesy of chat's generosity during this year's Stack Up charity stream. I have to play until I beat my personal best survival time, and boy does The Long Dark make me earn it. Things are going suspiciously well. The initial task was to play NOGOA until I beat my personal best of 4 days survived, and I thought we'd be done soon after. The run got off to a rough start in HRV, but once we made it out things seem to have stabilized. Astrid's health is lingering around 25 percent but hasn't dropped much for days. We start the stream at the cave near the plane crash in Milton, hanging around just long enough to officially set a new PB before returning to Grey Mother's and cooking up a bunch of pancakes (29:30). Some people think the new cooking materials and recipes make high-difficulty TLD too easy, but for me it's just leveling the odds. Then it's off to Broken Railroad in search of more stims, first passing through Milton Basin en route to Forlorn Muskeg. We stop at the Hermit's Hut to warm up and reload on cat tails, and while a miscalculation on breaking down a crate costs us a couple percent of health (1:09:15), the weather is largely cooperative and we reach BRR without incident.
At this point NOGOA starts to remember it's NOGOA. Upon entering the wolf's nest that is the Maintenance Yard, the wind picks up and immediately blows out Astrid's torch (1:44:00). Fortunately, hiding out in the guard shack provides enough cover for Astrid to light another torch, slip past a wolf, and leg it to the garage. Looting the garage is briefly interrupted by an aurora but fails to turn up the desired stim. Disappointed but not surprised, Astrid makes for the hunting lodge and finds yet another broken wolf (2:05:00). Indoors she finds a stim in the basement and a skillet for making even more pancakes, so the trip is officially a win. There's still one more stim spawn to search, though -- the basin. Turns out the long climb (2:46:15) was more than worth it as Astrid makes off with not just another stim but a tin of coffee and a firestriker in good condition.
