Due to some (long time coming) changes to ffmpeg, this guide will no longer work and I won't support it. I may upload an up-to-date guide that works in the future when I have the time.

In the meantime; try following the guide in the video, but with:

-vcodec mpeg4 -acodec ac3 -ab 640k -q:v 0

That'll probably do what you want, and seems to work for most people. (in fact swapping -sameq for -q:v 0 produces the exact same file with mpeg4)

Or maybe:

Change avi to mp4

-vcodec libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p -crf 15 -acodec ac3 -ab 640k

That should work with Vegas (not lossless, but very, very close)
