From CPU to GPU | The death of the I486 and Birth of PC 3D Gaming - Living in the Past
As the 80s drew to a close, the PC market was pushing forward in gaming technology. But in the early 90s the landscape changed focus from 2D to 3D, here the consoles took the lead and left PC lagging behind. In this episode I look back at the birth of mighty 486 and how quickly that went from top gun to bottom rung, to the very first 3D accelerator from S3 in the Virge. Settle down and enjoy a retrospective that has a tale to tell.
