From the Depths: Ashes of the Empire Preview
I am strongly considering abandoning my Neter playthrough, for these reasons:
1. My understanding of the game has changed so much since I started that I would have to start over anyway or else scrap basically everything.
2. The lag was terrible. Without a significant antidote to lag, my ability to play campaign at all is at risk.
I have wanted to play AofE for a long while anyway. Where it may be an antidote to my lag problems is that the player is limited to using 2000 volume or less craft, so no more giant airships. I like working on smaller craft anyway, and it is a great way to learn how to maximize the outcome for the minimum number of resources. Also, it seems from playthroughs that I have seen that it is a bit more challenging.
In this video I preview some of the craft I have developed for an Ashes of the Empire campaign. Shown are land fortifications, a bomber, a frontside airship gunship, a resource base and cargo craft, and two new tanks, the first I have ever built: the Patrone and the Matrone. The Patrone uses HESH shells, the Matrone uses rapid-fire frag shells. Both run on the same chassis, just the turret is different. Before I start my campaign I also want to build a surface skimming "destroyer" that uses both the Patrone and Matrone turrets in the same chassis along with missiles, hopefully under the volume limit. Something faster than the 20ms tanks for quick defensive response to base attacks.
Things are a bit unsettled at the moment with my tobacco withdrawals thing (they suck,) but I might start the new campaign as early as Sunday.
