Keith and Steve are back at Rock Island Auction Co. today, where they found this beauty. It's a Colt Single Action Army flattop target revolver with all the trimmings a 19th century bullseye target shooter would want. Built in the late 1890s, it's chambered in .44 Russian, THE hot target round of the era. This was a premium firearm in its day, and it's in darned-near mint condition. But it's not a mere showpiece.

Those beautifully fitted grips with the full-coverage "double-diamond" checkering certainly look cool but are also very practical. These grips are over-sized - note how they extend about an INCH below the end of the grip frame. They'll definitely give the target shooter with large hands a secure purchase! This is not the famous Bisley grip, but Keith really likes how comfortably it fills the hand.

The uncluttered flattop top strap leaves a clear field of view through the drift-adjustable rear sight to the front sight with its high-visibility brass insert. The bright brass insert would certainly be a big help in shooting black bullseye targets. The face of the wide target trigger is neatly checkered. Bonus Detail: the nitre bluing on the screw heads is still in excellent condition.

Since it comes from the early smokeless powder era, you could actually take this Colt Single Action Army to the range and shoot it today!
