Please note that this is a fan translation as this game was never officially released in the west.
The opening pre-rendered scene is not translated for whatever reason. It depicts Freedom City being attacked during the 1st Huffman war, which was briefly mentioned in Front Mission 1. There are also numerous references and events that only make sense if you have knowledge of the previous games. Lark Valley is the town that gets obliterated in Front Mission 1 as an example.

As is typical with PS2 emulation, there are numerous graphical issues when running the game in hardware mode. The settings I used result in the least amount of visual issue. The visible seams on character faces and junk around text is due to the texture offset necessary to fix a critical issue with wanzers.

Notes
Part of the intro scene at the base is pre-rendered. Hence the sudden drop in visual quality.

Front Mission 5 introduces friendly fire for all attacks except melee and missiles, so it's necessary to position units to avoid friendly fire unlike in 4 where linked allies in the line of fire just reduced accuracy.

I cut the tutorials this time around. I already know how to set up wanzers and pilot skills.

Items are automatically resupplied between missions and it doesn't cost anything once you equip an item.

During mission 10, you're rewarded extra parts for destroying 4, 6 or all 8 enemy wanzers. This involves letting the transports be destroyed, which is counter to the story and drags the mission out. Considering how lengthy missions can be, I opted to just complete it after preventing the wanzers from reaching the transports. In hindsight, there's a chance I could have gotten the 4th kill reward by switching to the missiler before finishing off the mobile weapon. I would not have expected the RNG to be in my favor for that, though.
