With no cheap Traincraft Steel at hand in the current modpack, there is a new and maybe even easier way to get Steel nowdays! It was new to me, maybe it is new to others as well?

The normal way is to use a Blast Furnace, throw in Charcoal or Coal Coke and cook Iron there. It takes long time, and the Blast Furnace itself is not possible to build so early in the game due to the Nether items needed.

This recipe have a nice output of two steel per one iron (and four coal). And the only thing you need is a Crafting Table and a Furnace! Actually it feels somewhat OP so I would not be surprised if a nerf would show up in a modpack update :)
