Fulgrim vs Avatar of Khaine in a nutshell

Before the Horus Heresy took place. Eldrad Ulthwe tried to warn Fulgrim, Primarch of the 3rd legion The Emperors Children of Horus's Betrayel.
Enraged to think Horus could ever betray The Imperium and with the influence of the Laer Blade, a battle occurred.
Later on, Fulgrim will duel with the Avatar of Khaine and won by choking and crushing the neck.
I understand that an Avatar of Khaine, whether in 30k or 40k, is just a small fragment of Khaine himself. But to see him fail and get beaten so many times even by nomral space marine, well it just makes it not that impressive and feel like its giving too much plot armor. Atleast this duel was with a Primarch, better then a space marine. Also it was focusing more on the Laer Blade since the daemon inisde was a greater daemon of Slaanesh.
