Fun Alternative House Rules for Mulliganing in Commander! #commander #edh #magicthegathering
Here are three house rules for mulliganing to spice up your commander games:
1. Draw 3 hands, choose one, and shuffle the other two back in. This method allows for more success states which we will define as having 3 lands in hand. Assuming 38 lands in your deck, the odds of finding a hand with exactly 3 lands increases from 30 to 65 percent. The odds of finding a hand with 3 or more lands increases from 55% to a whopping 91%!
2. My personal house rule is to allow 2 free mulligans. After two hands, the standard London rules apply where players start bottoming a card for each mull past 2. With this option, success states increase from 30 to 50% with the first two hands at the expense of a slightly longer mulligan process.
3. If you like quick mulls, you can use the Gabriel Special Surprise method where players draw 10 and either bottom 3 or shuffle 3 back in. This method is quick and allows for an 82% chance to draw 3 or more lands. You can even increase this to draw 12 and bottom 5 which increases your success rate to 91%.
