In this video, I'm doing a 1 Credit Challenge of a game that I played before, during my MAME Arcade Stream: Single Screen Platformers Edition. That game is: Funky Jet for the Arcade. This game was developed by Data East Corporation and published by Mitchell Corporation, it was only released in the arcade in 1992. Funky Jet is a cartoon-based, single screen fighting game. The player controls an unnamed boxer who, armed with jet packs and gloves, takes on numerous enemies in different scenarios. The game has no real storyline. Once the game is over, no credits are listed and no explanation of the game is provided; only a photo appears representing the two protagonists, sitting on the edge of a precipice, enjoying their victory celebrating with drinks. Funky Jet's play style is two-dimensional, limited to scrolling the character along the level corridor. The game actions are essentially two: movement and attack. In the Single Player version you can choose between two characters, both boys and with the same equipment. The only thing that distinguishes them is the color of their suits: blue for one and green for the other. Thanks to the jet pack, the protagonist is able to fly in the air in different directions and to hit and dodge enemies more easily. There is an energy bar at the top left of the screen, characterized by three different colors (blue, yellow and red) which identify the amount of energy remaining. Energy can be restored, partly after defeating enemies, and completely after clearing each level. The game has a Single Player and Multiplayer mode. In multiplayer mode, two players can share the same game space, impersonating the two protagonists and passing all levels together. At the beginning of the game, a screen appears with six different types of stages, each of which is characterized by different scenes, enemies, bosses, and different scores. You have 40 seconds to complete each scene. Once you have passed the normal stages, there is a secret one that is worth 50,000 points and in which there are 9 scenes within which the character fights again against all the enemies and bosses faced previously. The scenes of the different stages are characterized by a maximum number of points that can be reached, to which you can add the bonus score, obtained by completing each scene in record time. The time bonus score is calculated as the number of seconds remaining x 100 points. In the final level of each scenario there is a boss to defeat, without however the obstacle of time. The main attack of the character is the punch. The protagonist can deliver two types of punches: The first is thrown each time the button is touched; crushing it faster will generate a more powerful punch, capable of taking down even the toughest enemies. The second is a spinning fist that is capable of throwing enemies from the opposite side to that of the protagonist and, hitting other enemies, is able to generate a chain effect, thanks to which it can completely free the area and earn points extra. After defeating enemies, they can drop some kind of missile to the ground. By collecting 5, the character will perform a special move with his jet pack, with which he will be able to shoot down opponents by flying over them. About my run in Funky Jet: I think I did pretty good on this, because I didn't lose a single life in the first two scenarios. But the third scene is difficult, because the enemy with his steel pipe weapon hits you really hard. Unfortunately I got game over in scene 3-4, but I'm really happy with the end score. Overall, Funky Jet is a really fun game, even though this one is totally underrated and if you haven't played this game before, then I highly recommend to give this one a try. I hope you enjoy this 1 Credit Challenge video of Funky Jet for the Arcade and thanks for watching!
