FX Fighter is the first fighting game I ever played. Without a console to play on, this was the best that DOS had to offer at the time.

I was totally sold on the all-fours cat lady. The praying mantis that lays its eggs in you was also right up my alley. You don't really get better character design than that. It even came packaged with its own little cartoon book introducing everything. And the music was vibrant and awesome. I liked it.

Sadly, the shallow gameplay doesn't hold up. Your basic tactic is to out-spam a spamming AI, with the final boss in particular being nothing but a complete cheat. The controls were never good, as the game never ran fluidly even on the better PCs of the time. In this video, I am crippled by DOSBox's inability to cope with a four axis controller, which produces very random results (or just no result at all). So unfortunately, I never get to show off any of the fancy combos in the game.
