Let's look at the good, the bad, and the ugly of game remakes and remasters.

With the success of remakes (recent ones like like Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Final Fantasy 7), and number of remasters games get on the regular, are they a benefit, or a detriment to the medium as a whole?

In this boulder punch essay, I'll look at the positive and negative impacts that game remakes and remasters have on the gaming industry.

While it's great seeing companies like Nightdive studios pulling out old game from abandonware hell and remastering them for modern systems (like System Shock 2 or Blade Runner), you also have many cases of publishers putting out remasters for games that don't have this issue (Modern Warfare 2), or butcher them beyond belief (Warcraft 3 reforged, Silent Hill HD Collection).

With game remakes, especially in light of the Resident Evil 3 remake, it can be too easy to go to the remake well too often instead of putting out original IPs, sequels, or spiritual sequels.

Are there too many remasters? Are game remakes pointless? What's the problem with remakes? When should remakes not happen?

And why the hell did they use Comic Sans font in the Silent Hill HD collection?
