Paradox Development Studios head honcho Johan Andersson talked to us in the lobby of the Cologne Hyatt about the development of Europa Universalis IV and what's next for the expanding studio in Stockholm.

"We wanted to make it both revolution and evolution at the same time. God, that sounds like I'm in sales or something," Andersson explains the all-inclusive approach the team took when developing the long awaited sequel to their grandest of strategy titles.

He went on to talk about the DLC plans, although it is too early to talk about the first DLC (tentatively set for announcement in a month or so):

"We can't do what we did in CK2 (Crusader Kings II) and unlock new stuff to play, because you can play everything in EU. But we want to add stuff that enhances certain aspects of the game like a DLC that focuses on like, let's say we make one for war, we make one for exploration, we make one for trade, we make one for button clicking... no, nevermind that wouldn't sell."

Since the release of Hearts of Iron III when the team was 8 people the Paradox Development Studio has grown to 32 people and is now made up of 5 teams. One dedicated to continue supporting Crusader Kings II with DLC, one working on Europa Universalis IV DLC and three others working on various projects including the next big game that is set to be announced at Paradox Interactive Convention 2014 (January) at the very latest.
