Now that we've checked out all the BREAK Evolutions from the most recent Pokemon TCG expansion of Steam Siege, it's time now to turn our attention to viewer requests and come up with some kooky crazy strategies for some requested cards. This week's request is how to make Genesect-EX viable in the new Standard format. Genesect-EX's attack, Rapid Blaster, does 20 extra damage for each Metal Energy you discard from it. This paired quite well with Phantom Force's Bronzong, whose Metal Links Ability allowed you to attach a Metal Energy from the discard pile to a Benched Pokemon. With four Bronzong in play and two Genesect-EX cycling back and forth between Active and Bench, this made for a very reliable and powerful combo.
However, with Bronzong no longer legal in the Standard format, it's time to get creative. We'll be pairing Genesect-EX with Magnezone, whose Magnetic Circuit Ability allows you to attach as many Lightning Energy from hand as you like each turn. We're also including Smeargle, with the Second Coat Ability, which allows you to swap a basic Energy attached to your Active Pokemon with a different type of basic Energy in the discard pile. Each Smeargle will be able to swap one of the Lightning Energy with a discarded Metal Energy, keeping Genesect-EX's Rapid Blaster fully charged at all times. Will this strategy hold up against the opponents this week? Let's find out!
