Genesis' all-new 2022 GV70 will get its big brother's engine options
It's the premium-brand company's fifth model overall, and its second SUV
Genesis has now added a second SUV to its lineup, the 2022 GV70, recently unveiled through a global broadcast. The model will go on sale in Canada in the second half of 2021.
It’s the fifth model overall from Hyundai’s stand-alone luxury brand, and follows the recently-launched GV80, the company’s first sport-utility.
Like the larger GV80, the GV70 will be available with a choice of two engines: a turbocharged 2.5L four-cylinder; or optional twin-turbo 3.5L V6. Full details for the new model haven’t yet been released, but in the GV80, the four-cylinder produces 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque, while the V6 makes 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque.
All Canadian models will have all-wheel-drive as standard equipment. Four drive modes will be available, including eco, comfort, sport, and custom mode, while models with a Sport Package will add a Sport Plus driving mode. That package also adds a mesh grille, exclusive bumpers, circular exhaust tips, and unique wheels.
The GV70’s styling includes the brand’s new signature “crest grille,” along with quad headlamps, an extended rear skid plate, and coupe-style roofline. Inside, the cabin features mood lighting, thin air vents with chrome accents, and a dial shifter.
High-tech safety features include an updated highway driving assist system that can change lanes when the turn signal is activated; navigation-based cruise control that reduces speed in a curve; and a speed assist that limits the vehicle to local speed limits, and can do so by reading traffic signs if the vehicle isn’t equipped with navigation.
The GV70 will also feature a fingerprint authentication system; and a rear-occupant alert that’s based on radar sensors, which can detect children by their breathing and warn if there’s a chance they may be forgotten.
