Get Missing Nokia Lumia Black Features via QR Codes at OldGuyGeek.com
During the update of your Lumia Phone to the new Black update, you may be missing some features.
When upgrades are rolled out, they consist of 'packages' that provide scripts that tell each piece of the software package how and where to install. Everything should be tested, but in some cases things may get skipped. That's what happened when I reset my wife's Lumia 822 to factory defaults.
We decided to switch her main Microsoft Account associated with the phone. Last year, we used her existing pop3 email account as her main Microsoft account. It needed to be cleaner to provide easy sync with her new Windows 8 Asus laptop. Her phone had already been upgraded to the Black update, so she had all the features: Glance, Storage Check, etc. So I reset the phone to factory defaults to setup her other account.
Now, once you update to a new revision, like Black, when the phone is reset, it resets to the new revision, not the original OS that shipped with your phone. That's because the update replaces the original OS. It's just like on a PC with a hidden Recovery partition.
Well, since the update was going from the previous update of Amber to Black, it worked fine. But when the OS was replaced it appears some of the scripts don't work when reinstalling from Black. The features from Nokia that are not part of the core Windows system are not setup. Hence the need to download them.
