Final Fantasy III in many regards seems to just be an improvement over the original Final Fantasy. It shoots for the stars, but you can only go so far when your entire game is rooted in NES RPG design. I attempt to comprehend the complicated yet simple entry of the Final Fantasy series that truly started the now famous JOB SYSTEM. For me, by the end? FF3 is like doing your taxes. Nightmare video game. I think that comes across in the video you're about to watch. So here we are, continuing our retrospective series attempting to cover every single Job System Final Fantasy game. I give you: Getting A Job - A Final Fantasy III Retrospective.

I'll see you next time for Final Fantasy V!

Final Fantasy III hasn’t aged the best. It’s an ambitious game with good ideas, but every version is fundamentally held back because Squaresoft tainted the game by committing the cardinal sin. What is that cardinal sin, you ask? Being an NES game. Fuck the NES, all my homies hate the NES. No such thing as a good NES game— it has solid ones that were one day remade into great games on at least the SNES. But the NES itself? NO.

Welcome back to my retrospective on all of the Job System Final Fantasy games, where I can guarantee no consistent tone, nor analytical style. Today’s flavor of analysis is downtrodden, broken, and deceased from mid. Apologies that I can’t match the enthusiastic whimsy of the last video. Make no mistake—I don’t think this game is good, but I don’t think it's the worst game ever made either. It’s a hard game to have an extreme opinion about, so join me as I spend some time desperately trying to do just that.
