Jak and Daxter, whether intentionally or accidentally, was a game made to be nostalgic. One of the last true collectathon platformers before the genre took a long rest, until being revitalized by the current indie boom, that is. Nostalgia doesn’t remain profitable forever, though. At a certain point, if you want to stay afloat, you have to adapt. I’m not just talking about games here—that’s just life. Whether it’s sounding smart at a job interview or tweaking your personality to be more likable at a party, we, along with that same media we love and the people who make it, cannot afford to live static lives. Stagnation, in many ways, is a fate worse than death.
