Sniper Rifles are a type of weapon in Fortnite: Battle Royale. The purpose of these weapons is for long range combat. Most Sniper Rifles use Heavy Ammo - Icon - Fortnite.png Heavy Bullets, while some use Medium Ammo - Icon - Fortnite.png Medium Bullets.

Functionality

Sniper Rifles fill the role of a long range weapon and are often used to attack opponents at ranges where un-scoped weapons cannot easily see them. Most Sniper Rifles have a projectile bullet, meaning that the bullet does not instantly hit where the player aims. The projectile is affected by gravity, and different sniper rifles fire different speed projectiles. Exceptions include the Rail Gun and Zapotron. Sniper Rifles do not have fall-off damage, meaning they deal the same damage up close as they do at any range, allowing for most of them knock a player at any range with two well placed shots.

Trivia

The Zapotron was a weapon included on the launch of Battle Royale. It was a hitscan laser type weapon and there is only one clip of its existence.. It was removed shortly after. It is also the only weapon in Battle Royale outside of an LTM to use Energy Ammo - Icon - Fortnite.png Energy Ammo.
Eliminating a player without aiming down sights with any of these weapons shows a 'NO SCOPED' message in the kill feed. This is in reference to the concept of 'no-scoping' popularized by the Call of Duty franchise.
The Rail Gun is the only Sniper Rifle to fire a Hitscan bullet, meaning it will connect instantly with its target after the weapon is fired. All other Sniper Rifles fire a physical projectile with travel time.
In Update v22.00, all Sniper Rifles were buffed to have increased Headshot multipliers, and deal more damage, after many were nerfed to be unable to one shot players at full HP and Shields.
Sniper Rifles have been fully Vaulted in two separate seasons, being Chapter 2: Season 6 and Chapter 4: Season 1. This makes them the largest weapon pool to be Vaulted fully.

Melee Weapons are a type of weapon in Fortnite: Battle Royale. The purpose of these weapons is for very close range range combat or destroying structures. They do not use ammo.

Functionality

Melee Weapons are great for close up combat. However, Melee Weapons don’t shoot bullets, but rather they are swung at opponents to deal damage. In Battle Royale, Melee Weapons not only deal damage, but can be used to harvest materials as well.
