Getting Shovel as a permanent summon for any class | Baldur's Gate 3
34This is a step-by-step guide to being able to permanently summon Shovel the Cheeky Quasit by any class. Note that you DON'T have to involve the mirror, you can talk to Shovel elsewhere following the same dialogue rules.
Wizard, Warlock & Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer get Shovel on easy mode - there are just a few dialogue options to avoid (highlighted red in the video) & you're good to go.
"Non-magic" classes have to get at least one temporary level in a "magic" class (e.g., Wizard or Warlock). If you get a Wizard level that you don't want to keep, it is important that you recruit Shovel via dialogue instead of learning the spell from the scroll. If you learn the scroll & remove your Wizard level you won't be able to summon Shovel without it.
Wild Magic & Storm Sorcerers are tricky. No matter what you say you can't get Shovel as a permanent summon if you have any levels in these two sub-classes. Workaround: have any other party member do the first dialogue with Shovel, then speak to the quasit with your sorcerer character. I tested Disguise Self / Shapeshift method in multiple ways (note that it only removes race tags, not class tags) - but it doesn't end up working as the workaround above & Shovel either gets stuck telling you to speak to the mirror even if you already did or the conversation restarts from scratch for every disguise, so I didn't manage to successfully get Shovel this way.
However, Disguise Self / Shapeshift are good if you already spoke to Shovel but accidentally used a no-go dialogue. You can restart the conversation this way and still recruit her.

Q: I recruited Shovel as a Storm Sorcerer before through dialogue, can't you do that?
A: Dialogue for Storm Sorcerers was briefly bugged giving you generic dialogue instead, so if you remember recruiting Shovel successfully with a character like that - it did happen, but it was a bug & was already fixed.
Q: I am later in the game, I have Shovel's scroll & never summoned her, can I still recruit Shovel?
A: Yes, you can. Summon her anywhere. The process is mostly the same (talk to Shovel twice), the dialogue will just be slightly different with the same options to avoid.
