The Normal Mode, while does have fun setpieces, ultimately too easy since enemies barely shoot. The graphics are relatively simple, but they're effective. On the other hand, Special Mode is surprisingly... special. The general gist is the enemies get moveset boosts and enemies will shoot counter bullets, which tightens up the strategy required. D is the ideal shot since it protects you from almost all bullets. It's also strong as a melee attack. With the constant danger of counter bullets and tricky execution of boss quick kills, the game is fun.
It's not without weakness, though. The caravan enemies encircle you and repeat ad nauseam, the same problem as Aleste 1. This is also one of the reasons why the most viable shot is D and the other shots barely, although do have their own moments, have much use, either because those will take too long to protect you or won't protect you at all from 360 degrees onslaught.
A good shmup to casually play and when you want more, Special Mode will serve you well.
