Drawing some level of inspiration from Capcom's 1942 and 1943 shoot 'em ups, Ghost Pilots certainly ups the ante Inthe visual stakes. It's fair to say the game looks very impressive, even more so when considering it's a relatively early title for the Neo Geo.

What's less impressive, however, is the actual gameplay. The lack of speed power ups, combined with the girth of your plane, makes for something slow and unwieldy to control, and I just found that I really didn't enjoy the game that much.

Something else I found useless was the air burst/chaffe super weapon. It detonates and projects four explosions around your craft, which nullify enemies and projectiles coming into contact, but it also moves in the direction your pushing on the joystick. To me, it felt like you were supposed to be able to "push" it into enemies, but it just didn't work very well and I wished I stuck to one of the other weapons.
