Ghost Town (ゴーストタウン Gōsutotaun?) is the third stage in Sonic Forces, and the first stage in the game to be played as Classic Sonic. It features a section of the City that is under siege by the Eggman Empire's robot armies and Death Egg Robot sentinels. It was also here that Tails met Classic Sonic during the War to Take Back the Planet.
Sonic Forces is a platform game developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega. Produced in commemoration of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise's twenty-fifth anniversary, it was released for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in November 2017. The story sees Sonic the Hedgehog joining a resistance force to stop Doctor Eggman. It features three gameplay modes: "Classic", side-scrolling gameplay similar to the original Sega Genesis Sonic games; "Modern", 3D gameplay similar to Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors; and a mode featuring the "Avatar", the player's custom character.
The game was primarily developed by staff who had worked on Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations, using an updated version of the Hedgehog Engine, used in Sonic Unleashed and Generations. Development began after the release of Sonic Lost World in 2013. The game was intended to have a darker tone compared to previous entries in the franchise, and the character creation system was inspired by Sonic fan art the developers had come across over the years. It was announced at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con under the working title of Project Sonic 2017.
Upon release, Sonic Forces received mixed reviews from critics, who praised its presentation, character creation system, and Modern Sonic gameplay. However, the level design was criticized, as were technical problems and the Classic gameplay. Many critics felt that the game lacked ambition, and called it a disappointment in the wake of the positively received Sonic Mania, released earlier that year
『ソニック フォース』（Sonic Forces）は、セガゲームスより2017年11月9日に発売されたアクションゲーム。Nintendo Switch、PlayStation 4、Xbox One、PCのマルチプラットフォームとして展開される。
『ソニック カラーズ』、『ソニック ジェネレーションズ』のスタッフが制作するソニックシリーズ作品。近年のソニックシリーズ本編ではメガドライブ時代のゲーム（クラシックソニック）作品を彷彿とさせる、比較的明るい世界観やコミカルな雰囲気の内容のものが多かったが、今作では『ソニックアドベンチャー』シリーズや『ソニック・ザ・ヘッジホッグ(2006)』、別ブランド作品である『ソニックトゥーン太古の秘宝 / アイランドアドベンチャー』のようにシリアスな世界観とストーリーが展開され、プロデューサーの中村俊曰く『ソニックアドベンチャー2』に近い物語になっているという[4]。音楽に関しても『ジェネレーションズ』以来のボーカル曲を採用し、メインテーマにボーカル曲が使われるのは『カラーズ』以来7年ぶりとなった。
シリーズで初めて簡体字中国語に対応しており、全11カ国語に対応しているのも今作が初であると同時に[5]、中国におけるセガゲームス（前身のセガも含む）のPlayStation 4並びにXbox One対応タイトルが中国当局から許認可を受けた初のタイトルである[6]。またゲームエンジンにはソニックチームが独自開発した「Hedgehog Engine 2」が採用され、グラフィック面がより強化されている[3]。Switch版はフレームレートやグラフィックの表現が他機種と多少異なっているものの大きな変化はなく、ゲーム内容も同一である。
ストーリーコンセプトは「ヒーロー（レジスタンス）軍vsエッグマン軍」であり、メタルソニックを初めとする過去作品のボスキャラクターらがエッグマン軍の一員として登場する他、エッグマン側の黒幕的存在としてインフィニットが登場する[7]。 世界観を広げるためにレジスタンス軍側も仲間のキャラクターの操作や、テイルスやエミーといったソニックの仲間達が戦況報告として通信音声が入るという演出がとられている[7]。
今作の特徴として「アバター」が導入されている。これは全世界のシリーズファンから、自分で考えたオリジナルのソニックキャラクターを出して欲しいというメールや依頼が長年来ることがきっかけとなっており、それをある程度答える形で導入を決意したという[5]。その際に中村はElectronic Entertainment Expo（E3）2017で行われたファミ通のインタビューにおいて、「アバターのアクションの調整に悩んだ末、エッグマンに支配された町の一市民がソニックとともに戦うという設定に落ち着き、そこからアイデアを膨らませた」[7]、「これまでのモダンソニックでは、キャラクターごとに異なる方向性のアクションを作ってきたが、今回は『ド直球のハイスピードアクションゲーム』を作ると決めており、クラシックソニックやプレイヤーの分身であるアバターもその方向性に沿ったコンセプトで製作した」と述べている[7]。
インターネット通販サイト『エビテン』では本作のパッケージソフトに加え、レジスタンス軍やエッグマン軍のシンボルが刻印されたトートバッグやソニック、シャドウがプリントされたフロアピローなどが同梱された「ソニック フォース DXパック」が限定販売された[8]。その他にも、amazonやゲオなどといった様々な店舗で予約特典が配布されており、特典内容もそれぞれ異なっている[9]。
2017年10月26日にはPS4とSwitchに限り、PSStoreとニンテンドーeショップで体験版が配信されている。モダン、クラシック、アバターの3種類の各ステージを1分間だけ体験が可能。また2017年11月3日には発売に先立ち、公式サイト『ソニックチャンネル』では「エッグマンに公式サイトが乗っ取られた」という設定で、Webサイトのデザインが『エッグマンチャンネル』になる演出が発売日の11月9日まで行われた。
