City Connection, the Japanese game publisher that owns the legacy of Sunsoft games just released Gimmick! Special Edition for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox One and in doing so they finally officially released a legendary “Lost” NES game in the United States. I am playing and reviewing the PlayStation 4 version on my PS5.

Gimmick! Was originally developed for the Nintendo Famicom in 1992 and was only released outside of Japan on the Scandinavian PAL Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993 as “Mr. Gimmick”. An unreleased North American NTSC version existed and has been floating around for the past couple decades but officially the game has only been available as either insanely expensive very rare Scandinavian PAL NES cartridges or insanely rare and insanely expensive Japanese Famicom cartridges. I only have a pretty good but obvious bootleg of the Famicom version of the game.

I'm really glad to see this game being officially released and I'm glad that they're actually going to be doing physical edition for the people that want it but if you're watching this video you're probably into old school video games and I highly encourage you to check it out but do not ruin it with the modern conveniences that rob this game of its difficulty and challenge.

This is a great trip back in time to an era of game design that has passed where game developers wanted to challenge the players and didn't talk down to them and hold their hand to get through it.

Be a real retro warrior, embrace the pain embrace the hurting, Embrace Mr gimmick,

And when you're done with that leave a like, leave a comment and share this video with all your friends who are into brutally difficult classic Nintendo games. This is 8bitjoystick, Stay awesome, Play Retro.
