GIMP is really a bloatware installed in almost all trash Linux distributions. Of course Linux is trash on its own in many regards, so understanding why GIMP is trash helps you understand why Linux is also trash.
PS. Huge amount of LIEs exist on the internet, therefore this is my attempt to debunk those LIEs. You are free to choose anything. Yet for simple editing of an image file, there are better free alternatives, but there is no such thing as an alternative to Photoshop, free, paid or otherwise.
PSS. In this video, I demonstrated how to fix a bad photo to a decent state, but this only shows the iceberg of what Photoshop can do. Photoshop is really a set of tools that enables your imagination to fly where the sky is really the limit. GIMP on the other hand is not an imagination enabler. It's garbage. It doesn't have 1/100 of the features that Photoshop has, and for those things that exist, accessing them is slow, awkward, and unproductive. GIMP is trash, and its developers deserved to be hanged for creating such trash.
