Today a week ago we wrote an article in which we talked about the release of a new stable version of Manjaro. Although that article must be corrected, since the ISO 21.1 has not yet been released and probably coincides with the release of another stable version, there was something that we are going to talk about today, a little late, everything is said: GNOME 40.3 It was released days ago, and that was the version of the desktop that Manjaro included in its GNOME edition.
One of the new features that GNOME 40.3 includes makes me look directly at Canonical, and not because they have something to do with it, but on the contrary. And is that GNOME Software now it can automatically install applications if we configure it. Ubuntu comes by default with the Snap Store, one that gives preference to Snap packages and is not compatible with Flathub, so I always install GNOME Sofware.
Highlights of GNOME 40.3
If we configure it and depending on the type of app, GNOME Software can update the applications automatically.
Evince now shows "none" when the creation or modification of a date has not been included in a document.
GNOME Boxes, or Boxes in Spanish, has been improved for the function to run in the background for the versions that are not Flatpak.
Improved a bug in the app grid that could happen in transitions.
Fixed bugs in rendering of shadows and navigation bars in languages ββthat read from right to left.
Improved network drive detection in drive extension.

GNOME 40.3 It is now available , so it should start to appear in distributions as an update soon, depending on the update and your development model. Rolling Releases should have been received days ago.

GNOME 40: what's new?
The improvements in the new version of GNOME 40 were aimed at bringing greater ergonomics to the working environment, largely based on the interfaces often associated with tablets.
We note in particular that the vertical layout leaves room for a more horizontal view throughout the graphical interface. The touchpad navigation would be much more natural, according to user feedback.
What's new in GNOME 40:
- The view of the activities changes: the workspaces are arranged horizontally;
- The application grid continues to change and can be personalized, in particular by using folders. It becomes horizontal rather than vertical in the display thanks to "pages";
- Improvements in settings: shortcuts, Wi-Fi, special characters;
- More practical information and illustrations in the maps of Maps;
- New tabs in Web;
- New weather app.

On July 19, Abderrahim Kitouni of the GNOME Release Team made official the release of GNOME 40.3 , the third work environment upgrade, on the official Foundation Discourse.
