What can I say? Mr. Hyde has an explosive personality.

Edit: Got a 100% on this project, if you were wondering.

(This is my project for my intro to lit class. It is solely about the first eight chapters of the novella, and so the relationship between Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is not known yet. It won't make sense if you haven't read the book fairly recently :p)

This video is figurative & symbolic interpretation of the literal events that happened in Robert Louis Stevenson's novel. The main events (in my mind) are portrayed in this video, but reading the novel is required in order to catch the subtle nuances. This video is only chapters 1- 8, the two letters (Lanyon's and Jekyll's) are not included, so this video does not tell the complete story :(

Took me more than 40 hours to finish this video.

Chapter 1-5 were fun, around chapter 6 I lost my motivation, and chapter 7 gave me a lot of problems, so I became really annoyed and sped through 7 and 8. I was going to do a cool psychedelic credits scene, but it ran across numerous problems.

In case you're wondering, garrysmod.org had no letter (mail) props anywhere, so I had to make do with clipboards, signs, and blocks, argh!

Hey, I had to use Requiem for a Dream, because my professor/class probably don't know about it!

Music:
Main theme remix (Requiem for a Dream OST) by Clint Mansell
Ghosts of the Past by Rob King & Paul Romero
sp_a2_core_b9 by Mike Morasky (I think)
Outbreak (ID: 286940) by Evil-Dog
Epiphany of Anguish by Kirill Pokrovsky
Nasty Creatures (and Restless Guard) by Kirill Pokrovsky

*Spoilers*

A lot of the scenes are exaggerated and symbolic; for example:
- In chapter 1, Mr. Hyde literally walked over a girl, but it was more exciting for him to run her over with a car, so I did that.
- In chapter 2, the "Mr. Seek - Mr. Hyde" thing is a reference to a line in the novella, and represents Mr. Utterson meeting Mr. Hyde (hence the moment where they look at each other in the video, and the delay of disgust on Mr. U's face).
- In chapter 3, I think did well on showing Mr. U's concern for Dr. J, and Dr. J's unwillingness to talk about it.
- In chapter 4, the crowbar is a symbol for the cane, since there weren't any cane props, and I could do more with the crowbar. In the book, Mr. Hyde just bludgeons and tramps Sir Carew to death (there are no nukes; the nuke symbolizes Dr. Carew's death and Mr. Hyde's anger).
- In chapter 5, I think the scenes adequately show that the handwriting between Mr. H and Dr. J is similar, and that the characters think Dr. J forged for Mr. H.
- In chapter 6, the picture represents Mr. Lanyon's, Dr. Jekyll's, and Mr. Utterson's friendship, which contrasts sharply with the sign on the door. This is meant to show that although Dr. Jekyll was recently friendly to Mr. U, he no longer is.
- In chapter 7, Dr. Jekyll's wave meant that he was being somewhat friendly (which was conveyed in the novella through Dr. Jekyll agreeing to talk out the window to them).
- In chapter 8, in the book there were a variety of things mentioned in the novella that showed that it was not Dr. Jekyll in the room, by I condensed that into a sign that had a mistaken "Mr. Hyde" signature at the bottom, so the viewer would know there is something wrong. The bomb was a symbol for them breaking the door down.

I also had to make do with the ragdolls I had. Also, Note that yes Mr. Hyde died in chapter 8, but it was because he committed suicide, and not because he was killed by the explosion.

Apparently Dr. Jekyll has two houses and a building in the city, but you're not supposed to notice the locations, as Mr. Utterson appears to be living in the same house as Dr. Jekyll! (Noticable if you know the book and if you know the map). I needed a fireplace for that scene, and I had overused Mr. Utterson's Office-like-thing. Yeah, I sort of just took what I needed and used them sort of consistently.

There are a few easter egg things scattered in the video. A few scenes (up to chapter 6ish) have a random headcrap/skull thrown in the scenes. Dr. Jekyll has a vending machine in his glass house, so you know he's cool! And the red car shows up in a few other scenes, so maybe there's a link there between Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? ; )

I probably have a few random mistakes. The one I've noticed is how 3:14 goes from trees prenuke to trees postnuke to trees prenuke. And I should have covered up that healing station at the intro like I did later.
