Going All Out! | Huge Crisis Act 1 Ring Attack with Blaze on Sonic Rush!
SkyLights' record of 614 rings with Blaze on this level has stood untied since September 22, 2006. I will be grinding every day until the end of this month or until I tie/break this record. Whichever happens first. More info about this run can be found below.
There's nothing particularly hard about this level once you know what you're doing, but there are a few things you have to keep in mind. Much like Altitude Limit Act 2, you only get one shield, so you can only afford to mess up once, and also like AL2, there are a few tricky spots that require you to navigate the level in a particular way in order to maximize rings. I'll list them below.
The first example of this is intending to take the top path, but just to grab the rings that come before the first random ring monitor, then reversing and taking the bottom path below the trick ramp to get the extra rings and shield, then launching up out of the battle zone to get the remaining top path rings and the first random ring monitor. If the value blows, reset and try again.
The next one comes in how you navigate the middle part of the level after you've ridden across the gap. You have to navigate this section in a very specific way to maximize rings, and you absolutely MUST do an up-R trick after getting launched by the spring to get the third random ring monitor, because otherwise you can't get it, as it is too high in the air to reach. You really do only get one chance to grab it. Also, this monitor is surrounded by enemies both in the air and on the ground on all sides, so you have to either have your shield handy to take your one safe hit here, or be boosting when you launch into your up-R trick to take the grounded enemies out handily.
The last one comes after the middle section, where you have to do a trick much like the one I did on Mirage Road 2 to grab some rings on a wall you ordinarily run down the side of & backtrack to the 4th random ring monitor in order to properly max the stage. Not too hard, but an instant run-ender if you mess up, because you lose random ring monitor #4 and some stage rings.
This is a record that, much like some of the other ones I have broken this month, has stood the test of time. SkyLights set this record back in late September of 2006, and it has stood untied ever since. Also like another record I broke this month, I was the one who came the closest to beating it, with my PB sitting at 594. What makes this record difficult to break or even tie is the luck factor. I need near-perfect, or perfect luck to tie/break this record respectively, which means I have only two acceptable scenarios: 4/5 50s and a 30, or 5/5 50s. No other RNG is acceptable to get this record! How long will this take? Stay tuned to find out!
