Your villagers will have needs, feelings, and agendas shaped by the world and its history, and it's up to you to keep them content and sane. Going Medieval is designed to be a single-player experience, and right now we are focusing on that. We are not dismissing multiplayer, but we also don't want to overpromise.
Will there be mod support?
.json files within the game (that contain 99% of gameplay information) can be used by everyone and can be tinkered, changed, and edited to your desire. Things like Steam Workshop, total conversion mods, and graphical mods (adding new art to the game) will be available later in development.
Will there be some sort of a relaxed/creative/god mode?
You can create your own scenarios that include the exact amount of resources you want. Add to that “Peaceful” mode in which there are no enemy attacks, and you have yourself a pretty relaxed mode. Eventually we’d like to be able to give you access to dev tools if you want to use them.
Will there be a conventional story mode?
There will not be a campaign in a conventional sense, just scenarios that are mostly starting conditions with a bit of backstory. Villager backstories are randomized and are there to help you tell a different story every time.
In the world of Going Medieval, dark age society is on its knees. At the end of the 14th century, 95% of the global population has perished due to rampant plague. In the wake of such pestilence, the land is reclaimed by nature.
BUILD YOUR FORTRESS
Design, build and expand your settlement from a small wooden hut into a colossal stone castle. With simple-to-use 3D terrain tools you can create the perfect stronghold, from winding underground caverns to sprawling multi-story forts.
DEFEND YOUR COLONY
This stark post-calamity world is rife with external threats, but you can give your colonists the upper hand in battle by building impenetrable defences and traps. Research, craft and equip weapons and gear so that they can fight back against unrelenting waves of attackers.
PROTECT YOUR VILLAGERS
Your colonists have more than just raids to contend with. They need protection from starvation and the elements. Stock up on supplies and build shelter to keep them fed and warm. Maintain your villagers’ emotional states, as their moods are affected if their needs and wants aren’t met.
SHAPE YOUR STORY
Increase your populace by helping out strangers in dangerous situations or by taking in like-minded travelers. Your villagers have personal histories and agendas. Get to know them by observing their behavior and relationships with others.
