2DM notes: while some nations may be better than others to live in, I make it a point to always insert a drawback or two to make it clear that no nation is perfect or utopian. In the case of the Empire of Gold, the gold dragons are well meaning but paternalistic, though not as much as they used to be. They're also misogynistic thanks to the differences in the way dragons and humans raise their young, and while the other metallics have taken a step back and realized this difference the interfering golds still haven't. Also, I should mention that I didn't think up the elemental cataclysm backstory until several sessions after I drew the map and commented on how unusually stark the borders were. I knew I'd come up with something, and so I did.
