So, someone had the bright idea of taking Sega's world-famous arcade hit title Golden Axe and attempted to cram it into the C64.

On the surface, it looks good, with chunky, animated sprites that resemble their arcade counterparts, good background art and a nice SID version of the Golden Axe theme composed by Jeroen Tel.

The controls, however, are quite fiddly. I regularly found myself triggering running attacks or super jumps when I had no intention, or wildly flailing my sword when I really wanted to jump.

The hit detection is a mixed bag. Certain attacks, such as the jumping chop are quite easy to line up and usually connect, whereas attempting to go toe-to-toe with an enemy can be risky since if you miss with your attack, you'll lose an energy bar for certain as you get knocked to the ground.

Probably the most unforgivable error is that you don't even get to fight Death Adder as the game ends after stage 4 in this version. Surely it would have made sense to skip the turtle or eagle levels and keep the final showdown in the game, guys??!

Oh well, not the worst conversion by any means (Double Dragon has that honour).
