Golden Oldies Volume 1: Computer Software Classics for the Atari 8-bit family
Came also out for:
Apple II
Amiga
Commodore 64
DOS
Game description:
Probably the first retro-collection ever foisted upon the buying public. A collection of four classic computer games (well, two games and two programs).
Play Eliza, Conway's Life, Crowther's Adventure, or Al Alcorn's Pong.
All four games are liberal adaptations - there is no standard Eliza, and this version seems to lack compared to others. Pong is an ASCII rendition of the game (and includes a remake with color!). Life, however, includes various pre-formed populations, including the infamous glider-gun that figures prominently in Steven Levy's book Hackers.
What I think:
Adventure is a nice game, Eliza is fun for a little bit (although you can chat with AI bots now on the internet, so there isn't much need for that "game" anymore), LIFE is interesting to look at for a really few seconds (and Video Life on the Atari 2600 is way better) and Pong is...fun. And so is the company's own version of Pong.
Overall, this fares better than the Apple II version. :)
