"Golden Pickaxe" easy pigman/gold/XP farm (no redstone needed)
These farms are easy to build, require only about an inventory worth of blocks, and don't need a bunch of complicated mechanisms to function. This one does not need a name-tagged pigman, minecarts, or any of the other kludges that seem to be universal in these aggro-based pigman farms.
The design elements are borrowed from various tutorials/videos I've seen around the web, this particular setup appears to be unique though, so I thought it was worth sharing.
Output per hour: Single-deck (double-deck)
XP: 17,100 (39,800)
Gold ingots: 250 (473)
Flesh: 1548 (2,900)
Level 0 to 30 in 3:58 (2:06)
Schematic/blueprint is available at the end of the video, just use the slider to get there.
To build a basic model you'll need approximately:
3 stacks of "outline" blocks
9 stacks of "filler" blocks
4 stacks to go under the fences
4 stacks of fences
2 stacks of blocks for the path to drop hole
2 stacks of glass blocks fo the drop tube
2 stacks of ladders and blocks to get up there
Plus anything needed to build any extra houses/platforms
Features you can add:
-Increased spawn space (but stay between the 24-32 block radii)
-Enchant/anvil
-Item Sorter with sword getter-ridder-ofer
-XP pusher (sticky pistons + slime blocks can actually bring the XP to you at the AFK spot)
-Shut-off (use a piston to block the path so they stop falling and de-aggro)
Beware:
- Eliminate any spawnable spaces down to the bedrock, and also any open rooms/caverns just beneath the bedrock. This includes if you build a portal to get back, keep it deactivated and half-slabbed until you are done using the farm every time.
- Add ghast-proofing slabs as you go, build and secure the first quarter-circle before proceeding to the second.
Also:
My experience with single-deck and double-deck suggests that the single-deck version is actually better for AFKing as it is more "stable" over long periods of time. Meanwhile the multi-deck versions are faster for getting XP, if getting 30 levels in 4 minutes is just too slow for you. (Using a sorter the single-deck ran for 8+ hours AFK and filled up 3 double chests with gold and 3 with flesh without the pigmen ever stopping. The double decker tends to stop here and there, it seems. Perhaps this is why the other versions I've seen include various contraptions to try to keep aggro going.)
