Sonic Superstars was a surprise. I didn't expect a new Sonic game so soon, let alone a 2D one that had been outsourced to Arzest, the Balan Wonderworld developers.
I was also surprised by how much Sonic Superstars reminded me of the Sonic 4 - in good and bad ways. You could even make the argument that Sonic Superstars is something of a Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 3.
This review is split into three parts in order to respect that the game is still somwhat new at the time of publishing. The first section is spoiler safe, the second has mild spoilers and the third is full-on spoilers.
