GoPro Max Lens Mod unboxing setup and indoor test
In this video I'll be doing an unboxing of the GoPro Max Lens Mod for the Hero 9 Black.
I'll also be showing you how to setup the the Max Lens Mod in the menus system of the Hero 9. The setup of the Max Lens Mod involves activating the option of seeing the Max Lens Mod icon in the start page of the Hero 9 settings. After setting the Max Lens Mod as a quick menu options, at point its just a quick swipe down on the Hero 9 screen to get to the first page of the settings menu and then simply Max Lens Mod Enabled.
After activating the Max Lens Mod mode so that you get the confirmation of Max Lens Mod Enabled, this then tells the GoPro9 that you have the Max lens Mod attached. Don't forget, there is no electronic connection between the Max Lens Mod and the Hero9, or any kind of sensor to tell the Hero9 that the Max lens Mod is connected. This is why it's important to activate the Max Lens Mod function, or else, while the Max Lens Mod will have the effect of a fisheye lens on the Hero9, without knowing that the Max lens Mod is attached, the Hero9 wont set the geometry correction to de-warp or de-fisheye the Max Lens Mod to get the correct FOV field of view.
Once in the Max lens Mod mode you then have to switch on Horizon Level On which will then give you the locked horizon levelling. If you don't switch on Horizon Level On you will just get a wide FOV out of the Max Lens Mod without the locked Horizon Levelling.
In my examples you can clearly see the magic that the Hero 9 does to keep the frame perfectly level as far as its horizon is concerned as I turn the Hero 9 in a full circle and upside down.
While this Max Lens Mod is very impressive for the Horizon Level function, it's worth bearing in mind that the maximum resolution you can shoot at is 2.7K with it on, will this help for vlogging on the GoPro Hero9 Black?
I will do a video soon to see if there's any advantage to having the Max lens Mod on the Hero9 for the locked Horizon Level function specifically for vlogging, compared to using the Hero9 in 5K with its usual Hypersmooth 3.0 stabilization. It will be very interesting to see what the results are like for field of view, stabilisation and image quality.
In that test I will also use an external vlogging microphone with the GoPro Hero 9 and Max Lens Mod. Will this be the perfect GoPro vlogging setup, even if not, I will still carry on the pursuit for the best GoPro vlogging setup and to see if the Hero 9 can be the perfect Hero for vlogging, as in, the best GoPro Hero9 vlogging setup. I will also compare this setup to the GoPro Hero 8 Black as well, to see which GoPro is best for vlogging.
