Gradius: Arukimendesu Hen (グラディウス・アルキメンデス編) Famicom Complete Playthrough - NintendoComplete
A beginning to end playthrough of Konami's 1986 limited released Famicom game, Gradius: Arukimendesu Hen (グラディウス・アルキメンデス編), from http://www.nintendocomplete.com/
This bizarre oddity was released in extremely limited quantities as a giveaway to promote Arukimendesu noodles. Apparently, they were novel because the instant noodles didn't need water added, just bean paste. And apparently, they stopped making them pretty quickly, because they were supposed to taste terrible.
Anyways, the name is a play on the ancient dead Greek guy Archimedes, since "aruku" means walk in Japanese (changes to "aruki" when a suffix is attached), and "men" means noodles. Hence, noodles you can walk and eat = Arukimendesu.
The only changes to the original game are the appearance of the power-ups, and a new "ending." The powerups have all been replaced with Arukimendesu noodle packages, and a funky, half-english, half-japanese message promoting the snack food appears at the end of the game before it restarts at the beginning.
No cheats were used during the recording of this video, however, after each boss I did save state, so I did reload the three times I died throughout for the sake of making a more interesting playthrough. The in-level game play is completely legit, but I didn't want anyone to think I was trying to say I could ace Gradius in a single life. I've come close, but never quite managed it.
