1,320A playthrough of Sierra's 1996 PC game, Phantasmagoria: A Puzzle of Flesh.
This recording is of the Windows 95 version of the game. Unlike the DOS version's limited 256 color palette for video (even further molested by heavy interlacing), the Windows version runs in 16-bit color with no interlacing, and the video is far better as a result.
Please excuse the slightly out of sync audio during the intro video. It's fixes itself around the 2:55 mark, and stays perfectly in sync for the remaining 4 hours and 36 minutes :D
This video has a fair amount of stuff that's best left unseen by the squeamish. If you're likely to keel over or develop night terrors at the sight of someone's mouth being shut with a staple gun, you should probably pass on this.
Phantasmagoria 2 was an entertaining game, though I never felt it quite lived up to the epic scale of the first game. The video is MUCH higher quality this time, and packs a lot onto its 5 CDs. The plot is pretty contrived, though, and the ending seems to just come out of nowhere without any attempt at justifying the bizarre twist that is too surreal to not see. That, and the ridiculous button and switch puzzle just before the finale... WTF?
Anyways, the game is still fun, and the first 95% of the story is grounded enough to entertain- after that, you'll be too confused to understand the sudden leaps of logic in the final 20 minutes or so. A good ratio, but the ending(either of them, both are at the end of the playthrough) makes it feel somewhat unsatisfying.
At least the credits feature one of the most excellent video-game only vocal tracks put into a game, which is a fair consolation prize for the lameness of the story's conclusion. :)
