Mad City (NES) English Subtitled Playthrough - NintendoComplete
A subtitled beginning to end playthrough of Mad City (released in the US as The Adventures of Bayou Billy), Konami's 1988 Famicom game. Check out the review of the US NES version at http://www.nintendocomplete.com/adventures-of-bayou-billy
This playthrough features a complete walkthrough, all four of the original endings, the training mode, and the quiz game mode. I have translated and subtitled every instance of Japanese in the game into English (except for the big glowing logo on the title screen. Big surprise, it's says "Mad City"... or "Maddo Shiti" if you want to get really picky). Too bad that I didn't realize until after I'd finished that a fan-translated ROM is floating around the internet... oh well. At least this way I avoided the pain of memory/space limitations. I really didn't feel like attacking the games assembly code if the text happened to be compressed. :)
If you want to skip to a particular section:
26:36 Original Ending (Same as was in the US release)
29:51 Funny Osaka Dialect Ending (Hold Up+Select as Annabelle is hugging Billy)
30:38 Sad Ending (Billy runs from Annabelle, leaving her devastated)
31:19 Training Mode
38:45 Training Mode Ending
39:51 Trivia Quiz Game Mode (Don't continue after a Game Over on Stage 2 or later)
Bayou Billy turned one of Konami's best games of the 8-bit era into one of the most frustratingly difficult games on the NES. After tripling the amount of hits an enemy needs to go down, removing the life bar and adding obstacles to the driving stages, and giving less ammo during the shooting stages... you have a game that was once extremely fun turned into something designed to do nothing but make the player break their controller. The American version is also missing the Quiz Minigame, as well as the three alternate endings.
Really, the only thing that the American release contributed to the game besides English text was a couple of nifty graphical upgrades and a few instances of digitized speech.
If you find yourself getting in a complete uproar over Bayou Billy, just play Mad City. It's a far superior game.
