Gray Horsfield was a Veteran Valve developer. He's the pioneer of Valve's Cinematic Physics system and Left 4 Dead 2's zombie gibbing system, he had done work on Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Portal 1 and 2, and the Left 4 Dead series. He published this video on 2012, showing a test demo for a dynamic swarm system, set inside a strange map bearing eerie similarities and parallels to Valve's Half-Life series.
