In this part, Ryunosuke presents the metal fragment from the pipe. It perfectly matches the knife. This proves the knife was thrown by Mrs. Garrideb. Van Zieks objects, saying there is no way the knife could have landed on the victim's back. Ryunosuke counters, by saying the victim was bending over to pick up the burned book. Thus, her back was facing upwards, so a knife falling downwards could land on her.
