Grim Dawn is an action role-playing game (ARPG). It was developed and published by Crate Entertainment in 2016. It is similar to Titan Quest (it uses the Titan Quest engine), but adds a number of interesting features to its more colourful predecessor. The player can choose between several combination of classes and has a good number of skills to obliterate the ever growing waves of enemies. The gameplay is point and click and kill. Tactical choices are limited to mostly killing in melee and running away while shooting. The story is uninspiring but ok, the characters you meet range from cliche to freaky. The graphics are between basic and nice and shine especially when it comes to underground lighting effects. Despite some variety in monsters the gameplay is repetitive and the areas felt not very different (probably due to the generally dark end times mood). The title is good for some mindless slashing now and then though - if you feel the need to switch off your brain and relax while being somewhat active.
With around 80 to 100 hours which include some serious grinding the game is not very long. After finishing it I felt like "That was it?", but also some kind of relief, that it was over.
Grim Dawn is a relatively good game, but not an exceptional one. I would rate it in the higher 70s/100, probably around 78 or 79/100. Thus I am in disagreement with a lot of the press which rates it around 83/100.
