However, when Manny discovers corruption within the department, he sets off on a four-year odyssey to uncover the truth and redeem himself. Grim Fandango combines Aztec beliefs about the afterlife with 1930s film noir aesthetics, featuring rich characters, witty dialogue, and intricate puzzles. The game was notable for its fully 3D characters rendered over pre-rendered backgrounds, a first for LucasArts, and for its critically acclaimed jazz-influenced soundtrack.
