GT Academy 2014 Final Event Gold Medal Lap Time
The final event in GT Academy is open.
It's in a Nissan GT-R R35 LM Spec car, and it's at Spa.
And it's very difficult to get Gold.
But, of course, I did. It took a few laps and was quite difficult but it is quite possible to get a Gold Medal. When I was competing in this time trial the fastest time in the world was a 2:15.
Gold - 2:21
Silver - 2:25
Bronze - 2:35
The key to getting a Gold Medal on this event is to match the gears to the corner, and to turn in really early. The car is quite heavy, almost one and a half tonnes, so it takes quite a while for the momentum of the car to change direction. It doesn't help at all that there are cones on the inside of a lot of the corners, so that makes you even les confident to turn in early. However, if you match the gears to the corner well, like a low fourth gear for the long corner half way through, then you'll find a way to accelerate through the whole corner and make up huge amounts of time towards that Gold Medal.
Also don't be afraid to go down to first gear when going round the hairpin at the top of the track, if anything, it makes you go a little faster. It saved me 0.7 seconds overall by the split on the main straight.
