The death of President Vance has created nothing but chaos across the globe. NEPO has been unable to contain the epidemic, and as such, Los Angeles became completely overrun.

Jake knew something terrible must have happened. After investigating, he discovered the horrifying truth: Vance was dead. To make matters worse, Jake explained to James that he examined the scene of the crime and found a bullet which matched a gun that only Steven Ryker uses. Jake and James wondered if there was a larger force at work.

Elsewhere, Carter had been pushing his training to the limit. He perfected a new ability and while very powerful, it is very dangerous. Using this new technique he acquired expedites his time of dosage that he needs to inject himself with. He eventually felt a sharp pain as he sensed the presence of a powerful infected; one he had felt previously before. In addition, he and Alex discovered a radiation spike in the same general location Carter had sensed this powerful zombie. Realizing that Jake and the others likely picked it up as well, they sought after the reading.

James broke the news to Maia, Gordon and Ivan as he believed Carter to be the culprit, despite his denial about starting the infection. With no other suspects in mind, James knew that Carter needed to be stopped. They devised a plan to defeat Carter and Alex: they would each wear Peacemaker suits. Charlene then contacted James and informed him that a part to the Osmosis Device was located downtown.

After arriving at the site, James, Gordon and Ivan ran into Carter and Alex. James attacked Alex and was able to overcome him. However, his mental illness got the best of him.

Carter then stepped in and was moments away from killing James. But suddenly, Jake entered the site with his own Peacemaker suit and fought against his brother. After a grueling battle, Carter had enough and decided to use his new technique.

While he was able to severely injure Gordon and have the upper hand against Jake and James, Carter's body began to transform and he had to take his dosage. James prevented Carter from taking his serum, which caused him to undergo a metamorphosis. Carter had transformed into something incredibly powerful, but very dangerous.

Alex teamed up with Jake and James to subdue Carter while they injected him with the Procassium serum. Angry that Alex turned against him for a short time, Carter threw Alex off of the building, and was ready to destroy Jake and James. Before he could do so, he was interrupted by yet another radiation reading in the Los Angeles International Airport, and went after it without any hesitation. Jake realized they were being played.

Maia, still alive after her osprey was shot down, joined James and the others to go after Carter. Once encountering him at the airport, Carter refused to give in and nearly killed them all. Before he could do so, however, Xander appeared before them, and revealed how he had been sending them false readings in order to lure them into a trap. Xander also revealed how he had reconfigured the Osmosis Device to never work in Carter's plan ever again. Carter attacked Xander, but Xander easily retaliated.

With nothing left to stand in his way, Xander abducted Ivan and overtook his mind. This, unfortunately, led to the death of Ivan; who shot himself to keep him from shooting James.

With his plan in full motion, Xander's plan to complete the Osmosis Device seems inevitable, and his power unstoppable. It may take a miracle for humanity to survive...
