GTX 1060 vs RX 480 Frame Time Analysis - HITMAN (2016) DX11 & DX12 [BENCHMARK]
HITMAN: The Complete First Season has hit the shelf and this prompted us to take a look at the game's performance on Microsoft DirectX APIs. First, we will investigate the built-in benchmark, which portrays different locations of the Paris mission and consists of several very short scenes without loading times between them - far from ideal from a benchmarking standpoint.
Although we got very consistent results (average fps) from multiple runs, frame times can be a bit messy, especially on the AMD card. We can conclude that both cards can benefit from DX12, with the RX480 leapfrogging the GTX1060 regarding average frame rates. The frame times are nicer using the NVIDIA card and DX12 substantially improves AMD frame pacing problem from DX11. We will follow up this piece with actual gameplay analysis to be clear on the frame time issues - it can be easily a side effect of the rapid scene-changes.
