Ladies and gentlemen, this is soapthgr8 with a minecraft invention showcase. Today we're taking a look at a couple of variations of a guardian farm. Both rely on similar spawning mechanics but this one is entirely focused on collecting the drops and this one includes an XP mode override.

Both versions use the spawning tank configuration that WoolyCreeper used for his guardian farm on the Hypermine server. Both also use a system of hopper minecarts to collect the drops. Both sides of the tracks have automatic unloaders each feeding into a series of droppers that empty the items into water streams. In this setup there are 4 item elevators taking the items to a central sorting and storage system above the farm. Unfortunately, these item elevators will not work in the upcoming 1.9 release.

After a 10-minute test in this perfect perimeter, the drops-only version produced 17,599 items leading to a potential item count of around 105,000 items per hour.

The XP mode upgrades introduce some inefficiencies to the collection system that lead to a potential item count of around 102,000 items per hour.

Please note that these tests were not rigorous in their methodology and only one test was performed on each version. Your results may vary.

The XP-mode upgrade uses a system similar to the one used by xisumavoid on the HermitCraft season 2 map. A toggle system opens pistons that release water on top of the collection area breaking the guardian's fall damage and directing the mobs into a collection and mob elevator system. The mob elevators uses a guardian and slimeblock mechanic originally described by snocrash. It takes about 17 minutes to reach the mob cap which means that this is not the best source of XP, but it certainly is rather silly to watch.
