GunForce Game Sample - SNES/SFC
Original Air Date: October 01st, 2009
It's games (or rather conversions) like this that made people mock the SNES and its capabilities early on. For all intents and purposes, I think this game is a joke. GunForce: Battle Fire Engulfed Terror Island (yes, you heard right) for the SNES is a terrible port of an okay arcade game. I can honestly think of almost nothing good to say about it.
The characters and vehicles in the game have little to no animation and many enemies are colorswaps, the game has horrific amounts of slowdown after the first level (which is bad enough as it is... and that's in the SINGLE PLAYER experience), the environments and music are both bland, the screen has the annoying ability to get left behind (so you have to wait for it to catch up, though it helps you in some instances), the game has a timer that's actually pretty hard to stay within if you don't die (which you most likely will, trust me), and the game just looks and feels cheap. It has your standard power-ups and such, but they don't matter that much overall. The vehicles get you killed as much as they help you.
The tragic part about this game is that there was a truly awesome sequel to it in the arcades known as GunForce 2 or "Geo Storm", which was like the proper precursor to Metal Slug (not surprising considering who made it), but it got little attention or recognition due to the averageness that was GF. Of all the games I want an Arcade cabinet of, Geo Storm is towards the top of the list. I remember renting GF when I was a kid and hating it then too. What good can I say about GF? Well, it's cheap...
