The Pirates of Dark Water Game Sample - SNES/SFC
Original Air Date: May 26th, 2009
Always the Quest! Originally titled "Dark Water", The Pirates of Dark Water was a great cartoon I remember from my childhood that started as a mini-series. It sadly never caught on, despite the producers' numerous attempts to increase the show's ratings and was sadly canceled during the early nineties. Due to expensive production costs and failing to meet the airdates, the series was never completed, ending abruptly after 21 episodes with only eight of the thirteen treasures collected. I personally wouldn't mind if someone came and finished it myself.
So with that nugget of information, it's unusual that SunSoft would publish two different PoDW games, one for Genesis/MD and another for the SNES, especially after the height of its popularity faded. So, what kind of game is it? Is it an adventure game? Nope, not really. A platformer? Only on rare ocassions. A shooter? Actually, you play a horizontal scrolling shooting portion. So then what is the bulk of the game? A beat 'em up. Yup.
It's very straightforward right down to the three characters. You have the fast but weak character, the average character, and the strong but slow character. Yatta yatta. Enjoy.
