Guns n Stories Bulletproof VR - PSVR Gameplay
7A surprisingly enjoyable experience for a wave shooter.
As with most wave shooters I was hesitant to dig into Guns n Stories: Bulltproof VR due to just being tired of the genre. The market is still fairly saturated with them though not as heavily as before. What sets Guns n Stories apart from the pack are the characters in the story.
You play the role of an extravagant and hyperbolic grandfather relaying the tale of his youth to his grandson as he knocks back bottle after bottle of whisky.
As you play through each tall tale, the ridiculousness of the stories starts to amp up and that's where the game really becomes enjoyable. Guns n Stories is not a game that takes itself seriously at all and it has a lot of fun along the way. The popcorn being one of my favorites.
As far as gameplay goes, it's your standard wave shooter. You stand at one and and enemies show up in a 180 degree area in front of you. The, you shoot them... Repeat. You're not playing this game for the gameplay, you're playing it for the characters and story.
Even on epic difficulty, the game wasn't very difficult. There is the possibility that later levels will amp up the difficulty much higher but the first few stages were fairly trivial on the most difficult setting.
There was a nice variety of weapons that are unlocked as you play through the story so there's a nice sense of progression. You can then take those weapons back to an arcade level making the earlier levels that much easier.
The handful of weapons I got to use I liked. There was a nice variety and a decent level of silliness.
Overall a decent game for a wave shooter if you enjoy the crazy stories and games that don't take themselves seriously.
