Hackware: Turning any laptop into a HDMI monitor - OBS USB-C-to-HDMI-USB - Windows 10 MacOS Linux
Fun and useful to have the ability to use your laptop as a monitor.
You need:
1, a HDMI-to-USB adapter. HDMI is the input; USB is the output;
2, a USB-C-to-HDMI; USB-C is the input; HDMI is the output;
When you connect 1 and 2 together, you get a USB-C(video) to USB-A adapter that allows you to use your laptop as a monitor for any USB-C video output.
Here I am using my thinkpad to see the screen output from a macbook pro 2017. Bought the 2 things from aliexpress for less than $10 combined. They are handy when you need them. I am not doing advertisements, so there are no links at all for them.
PS. No video trick is used. This video is a single recording. First, I connect the HDMI to another thinkpad, and then connect the HDMI-USB-c input to a macbook. It works both on HDMI and USB-C.
PPS. The USB HDMI is actually using a camera video driver, so you need to enable the camera in a privacy setting before it's possible to use it, in windows 10/11.
